Many birde to be's know exactly what dress they want to walk down the isle in. Often the know the shape, colour, length and detail. Even the latest fashion is considered. What they don't always take into account is whether their chosen dress flatters their figure.
I know of a number of brides who 3 years down the line look at their dress and think that they should have taken a dress for the fit, rather than the fashion. Many of them wish they had stuck with plain white or ivory, and not used bold colours. I found a very interesting article on Online wedding boutique. Consider some of the following tips before buying or getting your dress designed:
- Consider your wedding style: Will your wedding be formal, semi-formal or informal? This will affect the length, colour and accessories you will wear.
- Flatter your shape; Obviously every bride wants to enhance those aspects of herself that she feels is complimentary to her. "The best silhouette for the skirt of any dress is A-line – according to them". Choose your dress according to your body shape.
- Consider your skin colour: Although you don't have to wear white, this is a classic colour that will forever be in fashion. However, try on off-white, ivory and cream coloured dresses if you don't feel like the traditional white wedding dress.
- Select the fabric for the season: Choice of fabric can vary from Raw silk, to satin to chiffon and heavy brocade. Consider your time of the year that you are getting married, as you don't want to be stuck in a warm, heavy dress on a hot late afternoon in December. Different applications such as beadwork and embroidery can transform your simple dress into an elegant bridal gown.
- The neckline for your body shape: Remember that a number of your photo's will be of your waistline and up. So don't opt for a neckline that can "let you down". Consider the width of your shoulders and the size of your bust when opting for a dress.
- Train or no train: Even though the movies always depict the perfect wedding dress as one with a long train, it's not always the case. The best option, should you wish to have a long train, is to get one that can "detach" from your dress on the day should you wish to not have it at the wedding reception.
